Director of Staff Experience (Human Resources - HR Manager)

As the Director of Staff Experience at Perry Lutheran Homes, you are responsible for providing a visionary approach in support of the established culture and values of the organization while defining goals and implementing effective processes and practices that will propel the organization forward and achieve business results through effective human capital strategies.
Areas you will oversee:
- Talent Management and Recruiting
- Employee Training, Development and Retention
- Team member Engagement and Communication
- Program/Policy development, Implementation and Administration
How you will make an impact:
- Drive business results by defining the necessary people actions to successfully execute the business strategy
- Propose HR solutions that support overall business objectives across three senior living communities
- Directs the talent acquisition initiatives and processes for three senior living communities
- Oversees all-staff communication, training and development
- Conducts new employee orientation and on-boarding
- Creates and manages job descriptions, job postings and job offer letters
- Recruitment of potential staff through InDeed and other hiring platforms
- Manages job postings and budget across various hiring platforms – InDeed, website, Facebook, etc.
- Brings new and innovative ideas to the table positively impacting hiring, retention and staff turnover as well as developing and executing employee retention strategies and tactics
- Engages staff with meaningful ways to live out our mission
- Effectively coach leadership in matters relating to people, including compensation recommendations, HR processes, employment practices, employee relations, interview etiquette, conflict resolution and HR initiatives.
- Promote the StepUp Career Advancement Program to potential staff and existing staff, especially the nursing development track for employees to obtain their CNA and CMA certifications and LPN/RN degrees.
- Builds relationships with area high school counselors and students, community colleges, and universities to recruit staff, build awareness for careers in healthcare and senior care
- Manage the PLH high school scholarship program to include promotion at seven area high schools, selection and evaluation of candidates, and presentation of awards at the various high school awards nights.
- Assures company compliance with provisions of all federal and state regulations, such as COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), etc.
- Assists in oversight responsibilities for the administration of employee services and benefit programs as well as coordinating company benefits
- Develops, recommend and monitor wage and salary administration plans
- Assists in the preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with state and federal agencies, such as the Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department of Labor, and other regulatory agencies
- Conducts employee satisfaction survey and assists with the analysis of the results.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Education and Experience:
- 1 – 2 years minimum experience in human resources or organizational development
- BA or BS in human resources management, business or related field preferred.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or equivalent certification or willingness to obtain necessary certification is a plus.
- Experience in long-term care or healthcare setting is a bonus

How you will make an impact:
- Assist in creating and implementing engagement strategies, activities, and programming primarily in our CCDI memory care neighborhoods
- Develop, plan for and implement group and individual activities
- Lead the way in implementing our IdentitE model of care as well as involving staff in doing the same
- Utilize award-winning environments in St. James and St. John's memory care neighborhoods to enrich the lives of our residents
- Ensure all environment features are operational (bubble machines, virtual windows, driving simulator, etc.) and make recommendations for future innovations and improvements
- Embrace the inter-generational living concept and work with the Acorns & Oaks daycare director to build and implement intergenerational strategies, activities and more
- Utilize technology to engage residents in meaningful living through the use of tablets as well as the Music & Memory program with personalized playlists
- Read each residents' social history to gain a deeper understanding of what activities a resident may enjoy, food preferences, and other likes and dislikes
- Assist with assessment of resident abilities, limitations, and preferences related to activities
- Assist in the coordinating of staff and volunteers to regularly engage with residents
- Chaperone off-site scheduled activities
- Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness by building meaningful relationships with residents and staff
- Keep accurate records related to areas of responsibility
- Use critical thinking skills to constantly improve and innovate
- Assist Director of Guest Experience with special projects
- Participate in and promote staff participation in community-wide special activities

- Flexibility and willingness to accommodate the needs of Perry Lutheran Homes at any campus for any time as assigned or as needed
- Create an excellent working environment in which team members are inspired to give their all, engage and interact with residents, and maintain a resident-focused, positive approach
- Supervise, lead, and set an exceptional example for CNAs/CMAs to perform safe, compassionate, and high-quality care through problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills
- Take a hands-on approach and be willing to help CNAs/CMAs and other team members with cares, med passes, dining, etc. promoting team work, adaptability and effective communication
- Assure that effective, quality nursing care is delivered through planning, organizing and attention to detail which is outcome-focused through utilization of the nursing process
- Develop and communicate individualized plan of resident-centered care in collaboration with the resident/responsible party, family, and care team
- Implement plan of care consistently, effectively and cost efficiently with focus on resident-centered outcomes by utilizing all appropriate and available resources for resident/family/responsible party counseling and discharge planning
- Work in collaboration with physician and/or other health care professionals by sharing information relevant to changing plan of care
- Perform accurate and efficient charting
Specific Requirements:
- Applicants must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing with the state and maintain a current certification throughout employment
- Applicants must be willing to work at any Perry Lutheran Homes senior living communities in Perry, Iowa
- Applicants must be willing to work varying shifts as outlined in weekly schedule
Float Nurse Expectations
With the motto “any campus, any shift,” Float Nurses will be given a weekly schedule based upon current organizational needs among Perry Lutheran Homes three senior living campuses in Perry, IA.

- Shifts will typically be in 8-hour or 12-hour time blocks, but will occasionally vary
All campus locations are in Perry, Iowa

- King’s Gardens Campus
- Spring Valley Campus
