Meals from the Heartland + Perry Lutheran Home = Success!
30,024 meals packed in 7 hours with 300 volunteers!
A life of purpose and meaning is how we live at Perry Lutheran Home’s Main campus and Spring Valley campus! Our residents and tenants serve together with schools, community service organizations, churches, businesses, families and more!
Perry Lutheran Home served as the host organization for a "Meals from the Heartland" event. This event took place on Wednesday, April 4 at Main Campus. Residents, tenants, staff, organizations, service clubs, students, and community members worked alongside one another to package meals. These meals feed undernourished people across the United States, including Iowa, and also in third world countries.
In addition to the meal-packing event, dementia simulations were offered, and other year-long mission projects were featured for event volunteers to take part in. It was an amazing day of community spirit, togetherness, and making a difference!
With the help of 300 volunteers in 7 hours, we were able to:
• Pack 30,024 meals
• Prep sheets to be turned into 600 bandages
• Make 120 prayer crosses
• And have a lot of fun doing it all!!!
To package this many meals, over $6,000 was raised to cover the cost of the meal content. In addition to our volunteers, we want to thank our partners who helped make this event possible by supporting the purchase of meal content:
