Weekly Senior Fellowship Meal to Resume on Wednesday, December 4 at McCreary Center
License approval was just granted to Perry Lutheran Homes by the Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA). The first noon meal will be served on Wednesday, December 4 at the McCreary Center.
As the new partnership began between the City of Perry and Perry Lutheran Homes in September, it appeared that the additional service could be added to the food establishment license that was currently held for the Perry Lutheran Homes’ Spring Valley Retirement Community building. As discussions progressed and further details emerged, it became apparent that a separate license was needed. The license application for approval has been in the hands of the DIA since mid-September with approval now granted.
More than forty percent of those age 65 and over regularly experience loneliness, according to a University of California, San Francisco study. These feelings of separation, disconnection and isolation lead to serious health problems such as depression and dementia as well as in increased likelihood of death. The Senior Fellowship Meal program is just one way that the community of Perry, together with Perry Lutheran Homes, is SteppingUp to help meet the needs and combat loneliness in our elder citizens.
John Andorf, Mayor of Perry, states, “The weekly fellowship and meal time together is important to so many seniors in Perry. We are grateful for the staff at Perry Lutheran Homes for their support in helping this continue.”
The senior fellowship meal is for community members age 50 and above, and will take place every Wednesday at noon starting Wednesday, December 4 through spring. For just $5.00, attendees enjoy a full meal, including drink and dessert, as well as fellowship with friends and neighbors. Those interested may call the McCreary Center to make a reservation at 515-465-5621.
