“Project Deliver the LOVE” Postponed
“Project Deliver the LOVE” is postponed to an unknown future date when it is safe to gather and enter into Perry Lutheran Homes facilities. This event was originally scheduled for Friday, May 1, and was then postponed to June 3. However, with the continued pandemic, the future date will depend on how things progress. We are now aiming for Spring 2021.
“Project Deliver the LOVE” is an event designed to celebrate, honor and engage with the elder citizens in our community. Two hundred volunteers will be needed to pack and assemble baskets with food, fun and encouragement at Perry Lutheran Homes Willis Campus, and then “deliver the LOVE” to nearly 400 elderly residents in the community.
“The goal for ‘Project Deliver the LOVE’ is that the connections formed continue beyond the delivery of the basket. The hope is that this project helps to form connections between elders and community members that lead to additional visits (when safe to do so), conversations, food, smiles and joy. It can be as simple as making a phone call, sending a card, helping with yard work, or bringing over a meal. The simplest of things can also be the most meaningful helping our elders to remember they are loved and not forgotten,” said Wanda Pritzel, Director of Charitable Giving for Perry Lutheran Homes.
We still encourage people to sign-up to volunteer for “Project Deliver the LOVE” and then check Perry Lutheran Homes website, Facebook page or local news outlets for the future date. Volunteers are needed for one-hour shifts anytime from 9AM to 4PM and can choose to either assemble baskets or hand-deliver the “love” or both if they’d like. To sign-up, email or call Carsin Olson at Perry Lutheran Homes: colson@perrylutheranhomes.org or 515-465-5342.
The basket packing and assembly will take place at Perry Lutheran Homes Willis Campus located at 2323 Willis Ave, Perry. Basket packing shifts start at 9AM with the last packing shift starting at 3PM, and volunteers will need to be age 12 and over to pack. Basket delivery shifts start at 10AM with the last delivery shift starting at 4PM, and volunteers will need to be age 16 and over with a valid driver’s license to deliver.
Also, community members are encouraged to think about elders they know who are age 75 or older, live in Perry, or within a 10-mile radius of Perry, and would experience joy by receiving a personal visit and a basket filled with food, fun and encouragement.
