Perry Lutheran Homes Willis Campus Dining Room has a Fresh New Look

In long-term care communities, the dining room is a hub of daily activity. Perry Lutheran Homes wanted to create a space that was more cheerful, welcoming and homelike for residents to enjoy.

Designer, Mark Holub of Holub Home, lent his visual display and design expertise to the recent dining room refresh project. Holub came highly recommended by Bill VanVliete, interior designer serving on the Board of Directors for Perry Lutheran Homes. The goal was to give residents a delightfully appealing place to dine.

When asked about the project, Mark said, “Since the room is an interior space, brightness and cheerfulness was paramount. Hence, we chose a soothing blue and bright yellow. The fact that there were three display "windows," we knew we could utilize them to draw attention and delight the residents. Besides adding curtains to achieve a more residential, homey feel, the windows are filled with a floral and color scheme to compliment the blue and yellow paint story. It was our goal to create these windows so they could be seasonal and offer a change of scenery for the residents.”

Perry Lutheran Homes feels that it is important to use the environment of each space to help create a homelike atmosphere. And, in many cases, Perry Lutheran Homes uses innovations in the design of environments to improve quality of care and quality of life which is the case for both St. James and St. John’s award-winning memory care communities.

“Because we are a nonprofit organization with limited funds and provide a large amount of charity care for those unable pay for care, we do our best to maximize our dollars and make a positive impact on all our resident’s lives through the design of our common spaces,” shares Melissa Gannon, COO and Administrator at Perry Lutheran Homes.
