Celebrating the Heart of Our Mission: Volunteer Appreciation at Perry Lutheran Homes
More than 50 individuals gathered at Perry Lutheran Homes for a special Volunteer Appreciation Celebration, a time set aside to give thanks for the many faithful volunteers who make a difference in the lives of our residents each day.

While not every volunteer was able to attend, the celebration reflected gratitude for all who serve across our campuses and programs.
Rev. Max Phillips, CEO, opened the event with a warm welcome, prayer, and reflections on Perry Lutheran Homes’ 70-year legacy.
“God has sustained this mission for 70 years,” Phillips shared. “What began through the vision of Lutheran churches has continued to grow through the support of the church, the community, and faithful volunteers. Together, we have served generations of families, and today we are blessed to be a vibrant, intergenerational community where children and older adults grow together in faith.”
Elsa Reyes, Life Enrichment Director and Volunteer Coordinator, spoke from the heart about what volunteering truly means.
“I truly believe every person deserves purpose, connection, and to feel like they matter,” Reyes said. “That’s where you come in.” She also shared how volunteers are uniquely matched to serve in ways that reflect their individual gifts. “My goal is simple,” she said. “I want to see what makes you, you, and then pair you with the right resident who needs exactly that.”
Each volunteer present was recognized and received a small token of appreciation as a thank you for their time and dedication.

Two volunteers were honored in a special way. Caroline Bouvette was named the recipient of the Faithful Servant Recognition, reflecting her consistent, compassionate service and lasting impact. Luke Rowe received the Rising Servant Recognition, honoring his commitment to serving others and the joy he brings as a young volunteer.
Caroline, known for her quiet and humble spirit, was deeply surprised and honored by the recognition. With her children there to support her, she shared heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve. Her connection to Perry Lutheran Homes has become so meaningful that she now calls it home as a full-time resident.
The impact of Luke’s service is felt deeply by those around him. As his mother, Molly Rowe, shared, “Perry Lutheran Homes is truly his second home.”
The celebration included time for fellowship, refreshments, and shared stories among residents and volunteers. The event concluded with prayer and the singing of “How Great Thou Art,” a meaningful hymn chosen by resident Judy.
It was a special time to reflect, give thanks, and celebrate the volunteers who help carry forward our mission each day. We give thanks for all who serve, including those who were unable to attend.
If you or someone you know would like a meaningful way to give back, we would love to help you find a volunteer opportunity that fits your gifts, your schedule, and your heart. To learn more, email info@perrylutheranhomes.org.
