The U.S. Census Bureau has estimated that by 2030, 22.5% of Iowans will be 65 years or older, a nearly 15% increase from 2000. Healthcare jobs in Iowa will no doubt be in great demand; likely adding to the current shortages across Iowa and the nation. Perry Lutheran Homes is launching several new initiatives to build awareness for and grow local community members into nurses, nurse aides, and more. One of those initiatives is the StepUp Scholarship Program for local, area high school seniors pursuing post-secondary education.

EXCITING NEWS! On March 1 we will be able to start scheduling in-person visits for all residents at Perry Lutheran Homes King’s Gardens Campus & Eden Acres Campus once again so long as the Dallas County COVID-19 positivity rate stays below 10 percent!!

With the vaccination of residents and staff, we are still anxiously awaiting revised guidelines from local and national health agencies. Until revised visitation guidelines are issued, all resident visitors will be asked to abide by the same protocols as from before.

Perry Lutheran Homes launched their StepUp Career Advancement Program. This is a pathway for employees of Perry Lutheran Homes working in any career field to earn certifications and degrees through promotion, higher education and tuition reimbursement.

Perry Lutheran Homes partnered with CVS Pharmacy to hold their first on-site COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Tuesday, January 5. Over 100 individuals, both residents and staff, with signed consent forms living or working at King’s Gardens Campus received their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The second “booster” dose will be administered on January 26.

With the Monday, August 10 derecho storm, much of Perry and other communities in its path were devastated. Out of the aftermath, Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, The Bridges in Ankeny, Bishop Drumm in Johnston, and Granger Nursing and Rehab in Granger, came together and rose to the occasion to ensure the safety of over 70 nursing home residents.

In long-term care communities, the dining room is a hub of daily activity. Perry Lutheran Homes wanted to create a space that was more cheerful, welcoming and homelike for residents to enjoy.
